Help needed to save community gardening service.
January 24th, 2008
The community gardening service has been working in Southmead for 7 years, St Pauls for 4 years and in Lawrence Weston and Lockleaze for 2years. Recent changes in funding mean the service is due to end in March. Residents and agencies are asked to show their support.
Please leave a comment of support below on this page. Otherwise you can contact your local councillor to tell them how you’ve benefited from the service. We will update you on the website.

I think that the community garden service is vital for Lawrence Weston in Bristol as it improves the look of the area. grounds4change have worked hard over the past 2 years making the area look tidy, and know i feel that it is going to go back to the way it was, rubbish everywhere, overgrown bushes.

I found this an excellent service and invaluable to someone like myself a pensioner. The impact this has made in my area has been brilliant, a great improvement to the environment and the quality of life. Trymside (Southmead) opens spaces have looked brilliant. The hardwork of the team as well has encouraged people to keep their gardens tidy. It will be a sad loss to the area and I hope the area does not decline.

I am disabled and cannot bend to do my garden. I have lived here for 14 years and the best my garden has ever looked is in the last 3 years since the service has been available. Closure would be an awful thing and St Paul’s wont be as bright.

We are writing in concern at the prospect of St Pauls losing its community gardening service.
St Pauls Advice Centre has been pleased, during the last few years, to work closely with Grounds4Change and we have also been delighted to play a small part by providing free tool storage for the service in the heart of St Pauls.
Through our close involvement with the local community we are very aware of the huge amount of good work that Grounds4Change have carried out and the enormous benefit reaped by local people.
All of our clients live within the St Pauls area with the majority being either elderly and/or disabled. We believe that these clients, (who are rarely able to step foot outside of the BS2 postcode), would be the people most affected by this short sighted decision. This cannot be right.
We hope that funding can be found to ensure that this exciting, valuable and professional service is developed and expanded, not destroyed.

It will be a sad loss to the Southmead area to lose the gardening service, before my husband died he used to do the garden, it got completely overgrown and the service got it looking great again. Thank you

G4C would be sadly missed, they represent a local service that do sterling work not only for us in parks, but in the wider community
